What we learned this week:

  • Reading: We read the book “Happy New Year” and talked about how people celebrate the same holiday differently. We made a compare and contrast anchor chart using two different people in the story. One was from the United States in New York watching the ball drop and the other one was in China celebrating Chinese New Year with red envelopes and parades.

  • Writing: We started writing our first opinion writing book. We started by filling in a bubble map with someone that we like or love and three reasons why. Then we used the bubble map to help us write our book and continued to practice writing the word ‘because’.

  • Math: We continued working on addition and subtraction. We practiced fluently adding and subtracting numbers within 5. We learned how to reason about numbers and operations. Example problem: Tell a story for 4 - 1. Then draw a picture to illustrate the story and write the equation.

  • High Frequency Words: This week we learned the words “no”, “for”, “jump” and “one”. Words we have learned so far: I, a, am, the, like, eat, in, it, did, into, and, we, see, go, no, so, has, as, is, his, does, box, on, was, man, am, at, that, hand, ran, friend, they, he, little, play, men, red, help, end, yes, went, get, way, away, say, day, run, up, under, must, and, you, there, big, with, very, our, out, all, good, no, for, jump, one.
